Spreadsheet in the browser

The spreadsheet is part of the Polish computer science curriculum from grade 4 to the final exam, and in class it usually means fighting with office suite versions on school computers. In BitWizards the spreadsheet runs in the browser: a cell grid, formulas, charts, sorting, autofilter, conditional formatting and several sheets in one workbook. An .xlsx file can be imported and downloaded, so the work is not locked inside the platform.

Primary school course - High school and technical school course (both in Polish)

Two courses following the core curriculum

Primary school (grades 5-8, 12 topics): entering and formatting data, simple formulas and copying them, charts, relative and absolute references, the functions SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX, IF and COUNTIF, a class trip budget, sorting, maths, physics and chemistry tasks, autofilter and conditional formatting.

High school and technical school (13 topics): data from several sheets and CSV files, logical, text, date and statistical functions, filtering by several criteria, choosing a chart for the data and summaries by category. In the extended level: VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX and MATCH, nested functions, simulations (savings, loan repayment, a population model) and tasks in the style of the Polish final exam.

Checking that sees the formula

The tasks check more than the numbers:

  • values in a range of cells (numbers with tolerance, text ignoring case),
  • whether the result was computed with a formula, not typed in,
  • whether the formula uses the required function and a $ reference,
  • a chart of the given type, an autofilter with the right number of visible rows and a conditional formatting rule.

The task is marked as done automatically once the workbook meets every condition.

For teachers

  • Own tasks: the starting workbook is laid out in the spreadsheet itself, and checks are created from a selection in the model solution.
  • Student work history: every action (formula, entry, paste, format) with a view of the workbook at that moment, plus a live view during the lesson.
  • My documents: students’ and teachers’ own workbooks outside the courses, with .xlsx import and export.

For schools - SQL and MySQL - Python

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Excel or an account?

No. The spreadsheet runs in the browser, also on school computers without an office suite. Lessons from both courses open without signing in; with an account the student's work is saved automatically and the teacher sees how it was done.

Are the formulas like in Excel?

Yes, like in the Polish version of Excel: Polish function names (SUMA, ŚREDNIA, JEŻELI, WYSZUKAJ.PIONOWO), a semicolon between arguments, a decimal comma and $ references. Finished work downloads as an .xlsx file that opens in Excel or LibreOffice Calc, where the functions show in the language of that program.

Are the courses in English?

No. Both courses follow the Polish core curriculum and are written in Polish, with Polish function names.

Are there pivot tables, Solver and macros?

No. The summaries a pivot table gives are built in the course with SUMA.JEŻELI and SUMA.WARUNKÓW (SUMIF, SUMIFS). Pivot tables, Solver and macros are best shown in Excel or Calc.
