Word processor in the browser

Word processing is part of the Polish computer science curriculum from grade 4 to high school: first paragraphs, lists and tables, then a longer document with a header and footer, and in secondary school a document with a complex structure, tables of contents and footnotes. In BitWizards the editor runs in the browser: heading styles, fonts and colours, lists, tables, images and shapes, A4 pages with a header, footer and page numbers, tables of contents, figures and tables, captions, footnotes and columns. A .docx file can be imported and downloaded, so the work is not locked inside the platform.

Primary school course - High school and technical school course (both in Polish)

Two courses following the core curriculum

Primary school (grades 4-8, 9 topics): a first document with paragraphs and a heading, font, size and alignment, bulleted and numbered lists, tables, a greeting card and a poster with an image, a project description, a template with fields to fill in and a longer document on several pages with a header and footer.

High school and technical school (9 topics): heading styles and document structure, a table of contents, captions and lists of figures and tables, footnotes, columns, page breaks with a header, footer and numbering, a document on a computer science topic, a letter template and exchanging documents with an office suite through .docx and PDF files.

Checking that sees the structure

A document that only looks right is not always built right: a bold paragraph is not a heading, and a table of contents typed by hand will not update when the text changes. The tasks check:

  • headings of the given level, lists and tables of the given size,
  • emphasis (bold, italic, underline) and alignment of the given text,
  • images, shapes, filled template fields and the word count,
  • a table of contents, figures or tables, captions, footnotes, columns, a page break, the header, footer and page numbers.

The task is marked as done automatically once the document meets every condition.

For teachers

  • Own tasks: the starting document is laid out in the editor itself, and checks are picked from a list and tried right away on the model solution.
  • Student work history: how the document was written, with a view of it at any moment, plus a live view during the lesson.
  • My documents: students’ and teachers’ own documents outside the courses, with .docx import and export.

For schools - Spreadsheet - HTML and CSS

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Word or an account?

No. The editor runs in the browser, also on school computers without an office suite. Lessons from both courses open without signing in; with an account the student's work is saved automatically and the teacher sees how it was done.

Will the document open in Word?

Yes. A document downloads as a .docx file with formatting, heading styles, tables, images, header and footer, tables of contents, captions, footnotes and columns. A .docx file from Word or LibreOffice Writer can be imported too. Printing and saving to PDF use the browser's print dialog.

Are the courses in English?

No. Both courses follow the Polish core curriculum and are written in Polish.

Is there track changes and mail merge?

There is no track changes or comments in the document. The course prepares mail merge with a template that has fields to fill in, and the merge with a list of recipients is best shown in Word or Writer.
